Product Benefits
-
High Purity (97%+)
Consistent quality suitable for flavour and fragrance applications
Manufacturing Process
Feedstock Preparation
High-purity L-Menthol (99%+ by GC) is charged to a glass-lined reactor with anhydrous acetic acid or acetic anhydride under nitrogen atmosphere
Acetylation Reaction
The esterification reaction proceeds at 60-80°C in the presence of an acid catalyst (typically p-toluenesulfonic acid). The reaction is monitored by GC until menthol conversion exceeds 98%
Neutralisation & Washing
The reaction mixture is cooled and neutralised with dilute sodium bicarbonate solution. The organic layer is separated and washed with deionised water to remove residual acid and catalyst
Drying
The washed ester is dried over anhydrous sodium sulphate or passed through a molecular sieve column to remove trace moisture
Vacuum Distillation
The crude menthyl acetate is distilled under high vacuum (<5 mbar) at 90-100°C to remove unreacted menthol and by-products. The pure ester fraction is collected
Polishing Filtration
The distilled product is passed through a 0.2 μm filter for particulate removal and colour adjustment. Activated carbon may be used if needed
QC Testing
Final product is tested for purity (GC, 98%+), optical rotation (-72° to -78°), refractive index, specific gravity, acid value, and odour profile
Packaging
Menthyl acetate is filled into aluminium bottles, HDPE drums, or stainless-steel IBCs with nitrogen blanketing. Tamper-evident seals and batch labels are applied
Why Choose Zentish Exim for Menthyl Acetate
Exceptional Purity
Our menthyl acetate consistently achieves 98%+ purity by GC with tight optical rotation specifications - batch after batch
Natural & Synthetic Options
We supply both natural-derived (from peppermint/cornmint oil fractions) and synthetic menthyl acetate, with full transparency on origin
Technical Expertise
Our team has deep experience in esterification chemistry and can customise reaction parameters for specific purity and odour profiles
Cold-Process Compatibility
Specially stabilised grade available for cold-process formulations where conventional menthyl acetate may crystallise
Global Regulatory Compliance
All grades comply with IFRA, FEMA GRAS, EU, and FDA standards for flavour and fragrance applications
