Industries Served & Applications
Common Applications
- Pharmaceuticals: Controlled-release formulations, topical cooling preparations, oral thin films where uniform dissolution is critical
- Oral Care: Chewing gum, toothpaste, mouthwash tablets, breath strips requiring precise menthol release
- Flavour Compounding: Confectionery (mint candies, chocolate), chewing gum, liqueurs, dairy products
- Personal Care: Lotions, balms, shaving creams, deodorants, foot care products
- Tobacco: Cigarette flavouring, nicotine replacement products, hookah tobacco
- Industrial: Polymer processing aid, textile finishing, cooling formulations
Product Benefits
-
Uniform Pellet Size for Precise Dosing
Consistent 3-6 mm pellet diameter ensures accurate metering in automated dispensing systems -
Reduced Dust Generation
Pellet form minimises airborne fines during handling — safer for operators and cleaner production environments -
Faster Dissolution Profile
High surface-to-volume ratio provides more rapid dissolution than block or crystal forms -
Excellent Flow Properties
Spherical pellet geometry ensures free-flowing behaviour in hoppers, feeders, and tablet presses -
Custom Pellet Specifications
Pellet hardness, size distribution, and dissolution rate can be tailored to application requirements -
Cost-Effective Handling
Reduced dust extraction requirements, lower cleaning costs, and less product waste compared to powder forms
Manufacturing Process
Feedstock Preparation
BP/USP grade L-Menthol Crystals (99%+ purity) are received, inspected, and milled to a uniform coarse powder under temperature-controlled conditions
Melt Extrusion
The milled menthol is fed into a twin-screw extruder at precisely controlled temperatures (35-45°C) to create a homogeneous molten mass
Pelletising
The molten menthol is forced through a multi-orifice die plate and cut by rotating knives into uniform cylindrical pellets as they exit
Spheronisation
Extruded pellets are transferred to a spheroniser where friction and centrifugal force round the cylinders into uniform spheres
Screening & Classification
Pellets are passed through a series of ASTM mesh sieves to isolate the target 3-6 mm fraction. Oversize and undersize material is recycled
Surface Finishing
Selected pellets may receive a thin talc or silica coating to improve flow and prevent agglomeration during storage and transport
QC Testing
Each lot is tested for pellet size distribution (sieve analysis), friability, dissolution rate, purity (GC), melting point, and optical rotation
Packaging
Pellets are packed in HDPE-lined fibre drums with silica gel desiccant to maintain low moisture. 25 kg net weight per drum
