Manufacturing Process
Feedstock Reaction
Hydrogen gas (from electrolysis or steam reforming) is burned in chlorine gas to produce anhydrous hydrogen chloride gas. The reaction is highly exothermic
Absorption
The HCl gas is cooled and fed into the bottom of a packed absorption tower where it is absorbed in demineralised water flowing counter-currently
Concentration Control
The absorption rate is controlled to achieve the target concentration (typically 32-35% w/w HCl). The absorption heat is removed by external heat exchangers
Polishing Filtration
The acid is passed through multi-media filters to remove any suspended solids or organic impurities
Stripping (Optional)
For ultra-pure grades, dissolved chlorine and organic impurities are stripped with filtered air or nitrogen
QC Testing
Each batch is tested for assay (titration), specific gravity, iron content, heavy metals, sulphate ash, and residual free chlorine
Storage
Stored in rubber-lined or FRP storage tanks at ambient temperature. HCl is stable under normal storage conditions
Packaging & Dispatch
Dispatched in rubber-lined tankers, HDPE drums (35 kg), or carboys. All containers are clearly labelled with hazard warnings and batch details
