Java type carries a higher geraniol and citronellal content, making it the preferred choice for insect repellent manufacturers, candle producers, and fragrance compounders who need a richer, more tenacious scent profile. Ceylon type has a lighter, fresher character and tends to be used where a more subtle citrus-woody note is needed.
